DON’T BUY THIS CAR – 2012-2014 Honda CR-V

Well I hate to have to make a video like this, but in the interest of looking out for those of you shopping the used car market and thinking that all Honda’s are reliable, good vehicles, I had to warn you! The 4th generation Honda CR-V and 08-12 Honda Accord with the same 2.4 engine suffers from a pretty common fault. The VCT actuator starts to go bad and a loud grind or metal on metal sound emits from the engine on cold starts, usually first thing in the morning. This problem usually starts only on very cold mornings when the vehicle has not run for a while and all the oil has run down out of the top of the motor and then gets worse and worse until it is doing it all the time. In my case, I paid a Honda dealer almost $1,000 dollars to replace the VTC actuator just to have the problem come back a month and 2,000 miles later. Unfortunately this is a common scenario and although Honda has released 2 different service bulletins to dealers concerning the issue, instructing them to replace the actuator with a revised part, it usually fails also. If you want to buy a great CR-V, try to find a lower mileage 2005-2006 CRV. They are the best https://youtu.be/A8MRu1TyOWQ
